Ein neues Weblog von legendary Mrazek: Netzjournalist.
Dort wundert er sich gleich, dass es "Google sei mit uns" noch nicht bei Google gibt. Es muss ja auch Googleseibeiuns heißen, so viel Bildung (bzw. Google) darf sein, und worauf verweisen da die ersten Treffer? Na?

Not that insightful: protocol of the blogging session - didn't even get the names right. I love the remark: Die Präsentation von Catherine war nett aber aus wissenschaftlicher Perspektive nichts neues.
(Catherine's [- who's? -] presentation was nice but from a scientific standpoint delivered nothing new.) I have to accept that even Google didn't deliver anything new - from a scientific standpoint, that is.
Caterinas note after her return to Vacouver - sorry for the terrible flight connection. :-(

Digital Lifestyle Day
I had the pleasure to organize a panel on Blogosphere (and beyond) during the Digital Lifestyle Day with Meg Hourihan (cofounder blogger.com), Loic Le Meur (SixApart), Caterina Fake (cofounder flickr.com), Michael Beidenbrücker (cofounder last.fm), Yat Siu (founder outblaze) and Stefan Heidenreich (author of FlipFlop).
I'll post some thoughts on the brilliant panel tomorrow or so - and also some pics on my flickr account (which is slow during the German night, as always, but Caterina tells me they are moving server capacity to a more eurofriendly location).

Flickr und Journalisten
Fabian Mohr weist darauf hin, dass Flickr für Journalisten eine spannende Quelle sein kann - viele Ereignisse schlagen sich dort nieder, bevor die großen Agenturen darüber berichten.
Caterina Fake berichtete uns z.B., dass die ersten Bilder vom Anschlag auf eine US-Botschaft in Flickr zu finden waren - noch bevor CNN die Berichterstattung aufnehmen konnte. Ein Handy mit Kamera ist eben immer in der Nähe.

Endlich macht jemand den Job und vergleicht (elf) Social Bookmark Services. Gut, dass wir alle schon Furl benutzen - scheint uns für die Zwecke von Journalisten am besten geeignet.

Collaborative Filters and Japanese Society
One of the question of the emerging long tail economy:
Who knows the coolest stuff?
Answer 1: My friends (colleagues, co-workers, fellow experts).
Answer 2: A scattered group of people, connected only by their coincidental common taste in one particular field.
In a way, both answers are true, but the second one is central to social software. It should not be about connecting people who know each other already and want to share their interests, it should be about finding people who have my interests in a special field.
It is a general error to think that my good friends (colleagues, co-workers, fellow experts) are the best experts for my taste of music, books, information. When you use services like last.fm or furl or del.icio.us or rojo or flickr you all of a sudden realize that there are buddies out there who know your taste better than anyone else just by coincidence. This is the central pleasure connected with social software: To realize that for every interest there is group of different people out there who knows you better that yourself - without knowing anything else about your life.
This reminds me of some Japanese friendships that seem restricted to special applications: the friend to go to the movies with, the friend to have sex with, the friend to go to the sports club with. In many cases these friends only know the slice of your life that is especially reserved for them.

Weil ich's grad sehe:
Du hast Physik studiert?
Ich konnte noch nie Kopfrechnen.
Das habe ich nach der 10 abgewählt.
Das habe ich schon in der Schule nie verstanden.
Der Einstein ist schon toll, was der so gemacht hat.
Dann musst Du aber schlau sein.
Du siehst aber gar nicht so aus.
Das hat mich schon immer fasziniert, aber dann hab ich BWL studiert.
